MY GUITAR STORY

In May 2019, I started to learn to play guitar, and although I didn’t know it at the time, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I had never learned a musical instrument before (does 1 school term of recorder count?) but at the ripe old age of 39, married and with two young children I took the plunge.

So, I chose to start learning to play guitar as I have a love for guitar-based music and decided to learn exclusively using online resources as I was time-poor and wanted to see if it was truly possible.

I tracked my progress from the start in order to hold myself accountable and to show others that it can be done. I started this blog and my YouTube channel to help tell the story and as a way to track my guitar progress (check out all my progress here).

My blog and channel have now grown into a resource for beginner guitar players and those looking to improve their guitar playing.

I have made mistakes along the way but have come out the other side and have learned from it. I share these learning experiences here so you can benefit and combined with expert advice from writers who are experienced in all things guitar I hope to provide an honest and genuine resource for those looking to learn.

I haven’t attended a music school or had physical lessons and I’m certainly not an expert or someone who learns things incredibly quickly. I am, however, an average person who knows that learning anything new is about practice, discipline, and an unwavering desire to improve oneself.

My goals are to inspire everyone who comes across my content through the actions that I take, the lessons that I learn, and the joy of learning guitar that I can share with others.

So, come along and join me and let’s learn together.

This is the gear I currently own. I have spent a lot of time researching what is great value guitar gear for the money and I have stuck to these principles when buying the equipment I have. These aren’t the only options but they are gear for a beginner that will suit you all the way through intermediate and up to advanced guitar player.

Guitars

Seagull S6

Seagull S6 Original

This is hands down one of the best beginner guitars you can buy. They are a cedar solid top guitar and made in Canada. Read around and you will see that they have a huge following.

I bought this second hand and the equivalent now is a Fender Player Series Stratocaster. They are an entry-level Fender Stratocaster that are made in Mexico and I love them.

An industry-standard microphone, excellent for capturing sound from amps and acoustic guitars. An all-round great microphone with a solid as a rock reputation.
